Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1861‑64: at the Military Academy as Asst. Instructor of Infantry Tactics, July 22, 1861, to June 11, 1862; in the Virginia Peninsular Campaign (Army of the Potomac), June 23‑28, 1862, being engaged in the Battle of Gaines's Mill, June 27, 1862, where he was severely wounded; on sick leave of absence, disabled by wound, June 28 to Nov. 28, 1862; in the Rappahannock

Campaign (Army of the Potomac), Dec., 1862, to June, 1863, being engaged in the Battle of Fredericksburg, Dec. 13, 1862, — and Battle of Chancellorsville, May 2‑4, 1863; in the Pennsylvania Campaign (Army of the Potomac), June‑July, 1863, being engaged in the Battle of Gettysburg, July 2‑3, 1863; in hospital at Washington, D. C., July 30 to Sep. 17, 1863; in mounting guns in New York Harbor, Sep. 17, 1863, to June 7, 1864, when he joined the Army of the Potomac at Cold Harbor, Va.; and absent sick, June 10‑29, 1864.

Civil History. — Prostrated by a severe attack of inflammation of the lungs, resulting from the effect of his wound and exposure in the field, he died, Nov. 15, 1865, at Brooklyn, N. Y.: Aged 25.
